Anyone here has a vette with candy red paint on it ? Pictures ?
We're getting ready to spray mine with Dupli-Color's "Paint Shop Candy Coat" candy apple red. Just finished with the primer stage now and have it all block sanded. Will be doing some wet sanding of the primer next. If you can wait a few more weeks, I'll post photos. Here is the color from their web site:
Just to clarify, bright red is NOT candy red. The first 'Vette, (which is absolutely beautiful) is a true candy color.
Candy apple red is a three stage process. First is usually a gold or silver base coat, then a translucent red color, (that you can see the base color through) then the clear coat on top.
Just like the candy coating on an apple. You can see the apple through the candy coating, but has a richer color from the candy coating. (hence the name) I'm a HUGE fan of candy paint, ..but it's a pet peeve of mine to call a solid red paint job candy apple red.
Not sure why I went off on a tangent like that, but I was afraid I'd see a red car passed off as candy red. They're two totally different animals.

The duplicolor candy coat system is definitely a (silver) base coat, (translucent) color coat and clear coat system.
I'm hoping for the best, even though their image looks "orange" to me. If anyone cares, I'm going to do several extra coats of clear to buff into uber-shine-istic-expialidocious (or something like it)...along with a LOT of wet sanding.
There's a color called candy brandywine. That burnt candy is close, but brandywine is a little deeper. It may just be my all time favorite custom color.
Not a 'Vette, but a beautiful example of the color I'm talking about. It all depends on how thick you lay the candy coat. The more coats down, the darker it gets.
