Comp Cams I believe are the bet in the aftermarket cam business and any questions you need answered call the tech line, They even will tell you if you ask that a Competitor has a better design on the cams you are asking about.
I Have used Comp Cams in the past and have had no complaints. I had only one experience with their customer service. I used to race a big block Camaro. Had a very stoudt high lift roller lifter cam in the engine. On a bearing inspection between weekend events I found the indexing pin for the timing gear in the oil pan. Pulled the timing cover and sure enough it had worked its way out of the front of the cam ( I have no idea how.....). Called Com Cams, told them the story and that I needed the cam fixed and back in the engine by the weekend. They had me overnight it to them, they pressed a new pin in and sent it back overnight all on their dime. This was back in the late 90's. Things may have changed now, but that was my experience.
When I needed the stock profile cam for my 71 LS5, I looked at Comp Cams first, but they did not have one so I went with Crane.....
They sell millions of cams acroos a wide variety of applications. They must be doing something right and I would not lose any sleep over using one of their products.
I just went to GM's Parts and GM dosen't even list any solid lifter cams for a SB. Holy camshaft!! And I had really good luck with that 3927140 cam too.
I just put a Crane F-278-2 solid lifter cam in my Camaro. This grind is very close to an LT-1 grind in application as the valve timing points are very close. I like it in my DZ 302
You can also get an exact copy of the LT-1 cam from Federal Mogul or Crane cams Blue Racer division. Jeg's has them under part number 270-969551.
Comp does not market an exact copy.
Scoggin Dickey sells a kit with the actual GM cam and lifters under part number 12364054

Very much like their product line. Living just a few minutes away, I've never run into anything I'd call "bad service", and although getting proficient help on many a tech line can sometimes be frustrating (particularly should you stray from the basic menu) both Bryan and Brock seem to care enough to find out anything they don't know off hand when I've dealt with them.
I like how they all charge more for a roller profile. Smacks of market fixing collusion to me. I talked to a a cam grinder and he said he would duplicate whatever pattern I wanted for something like $70 per cam.
