'77 hood insulation
I just got my 77 back from paint. I paid the high dollar for new molded GM hood insulation.
But, when I took it out of the box...it is not like the piece that was there. It doesn't cover the entire hood...which, from what I can tell, the correct factory piece did not cover the whole hood. However...the one I took off covered pretty much the whole hood from cowl to nose.
That would lead you believe that the one I took off was a non-correct replacement...right? But...it looks to be a molded piece, of the same material as the GM piece...nothing like the current "economy" replacements I have looked at...and it has 8 clips rather than 6 like the new GM piece would use.
Has anyone come across this?
I don't have a problem going with the smaller "correct" piece...but what about the two extra clips? I don't want to remove them because underside of the hood has been painted...but I don't want to leave them because it would look like I put the wrong part on.
Sorry for such a long post for such a small issue...but it bugs me! lol

After having to deal with the same problem you had, I finally had my hood insulation removed permanantly and had the underside cleaned, sanded and painted. I thought the insulation was to "protect" the hood from the engine heat, but found out it was there for "sound muffling" Good luck!
