I'm ready to pull the body off the frame of the '73 and I'm nervous about having a bunch of guys try to pick it up because there doesn't seem to be a lot of area to grab on to and it will have to be picked up higher than the motor to clear.
Can it be lifted by the T-top bar on the birdcage with a strap and big engine hoist?
In fact, can anyone tell me about how much the body will weigh without the interior?
Thanks in advance.

Skip,
I believe an empty body with out interior or glass still weighs close to 1000 lbs.. Most pictures of body lifts I see show the straps under the rocker channels. I also usually see 8 friends doing the lifting in place of a hoist.

Alan
skip my rockers were badly rusted when i lifted mine last week,so i jacked all corners up and ran straps around the entire center section then one down to front support and lifted it that way.
If the rockers are not all rusted out I would suggest buying or borrowing a strap setup. Let the hoist do the work and those willing to help keep and eye out on each corner.
Definitely use a hoist of any type. An engine hoist at the least provided it has sufficient extension. I don't mind fixing a little crushed fibreglass, but I am really no good at fixing crushed fingers!
I used two come-a-longs to lift mine but I have a 10 ft cieling in my garage. One come=a=long did most of the work, the other only supported the nose. Body-off
