Default Engine troubles

My car has been idle for about a year and now when i try to start it it will start but it dies after about 5-10 seconds of idling. It will cut out sooner if i try and give it gas. I have disconnected the fuel lines from the tank and am running it from a new can of gas with the same results. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this thing running?

Sounds like clogged fuel filter, the one inside the carb inlet.

Sounds like you just need to go through your carb. Gas starts to go bad and turn into varnish within 4-6 months of sitting idle. It would be a good excuse to rebuild your carb... Take that puppy apart and soak it in a can of B-12. I think a rebuild kit for our carbs is $35 or so.

Fuel filter is most likely trashed. Pull it to see. If the paper element is deteriorated, don't try to start the car again....just remove/clean out/rebuild the carb as it needs. Pay attention to clearing all of the passages in the castings/drilled holes well to get the filter junk out of it.
