This is probably the dumbest thread to date but I was just wondering. I'm not real quick when it comes to comebacks and could use the wit of the forum. The most common comment I get when I take my car out is "I'll trade you!" What do you say to that?
What kind of typical comments to you get about your vette and what do you say?
1. "I'll trade you"... and I smile and answer, " not a chance in hell"
2. " i bet it's not very fast" .... and I smile and say " yeah you're right, it's not fast at all, I just like it for it's looks."
Most people just smile and give me a thumbs up. I get a lot of compliments on my dark navy metallic C5 but nothing like the attention in the 72 stingray...people just are in awe of these works of art...

I didn't have a funny response, but within the first couple days driving my '76 after I first got it, I had some guy drive up and ask if I was selling. My response was.."I just got the thing...I haven't even had time to enjoy it yet!"
What I wanted to say was..."Do you see a fu**'n for sale sign on it? No, I didn't think so.....now move along"
Of course, money talks and if someone would have offered more than it was worth, I probably would have given in.

I usually say, 'If you have $15,000 your willing to spend on it sure!'
I usually just smile and say no thank you, and appreciate their compliment. I do like Sully's response "I'll trade you"... and I smile and answer, " not a chance in hell".
From: 90% of all Fords are still on the road.....the other 10% actually made it home!

Just today I finished lowering the '81,.....and after pulling it out of the garage to take some measurements and pictures, some young kid about 16 or 17 (with a backpack full of school books) walks right up into my driveway and asks me if I wanted to trade it for his '86 C4 with only 174K miles.
I told him my car only had 84K original miles, and the motor was brand new. (well, 500 miles anyway) So he say's to me: "well how much do you want for it"? Again I was like: "listen to me,....this car is not for sale,....nor will it "BE" for sale anytime in the distant future,....I just bought it 6 months ago and spent the whole winter building it up to what it is". After that I had to turn around and walk away.
Are people really that ignorant??? They think we would actually just trade or sell our cars to them?
I mean, I realize MOST of the time people are just joking as they say it with a smile on thier face,......but I think others are actually serious sometimes.

I wouldn't be offended unless they offered a number that is offensive. If somebody were to offer me enough to where I could get into the same or nicer vette and still have money left to play with, I'd be a fool not to do it.
Thanks for all the replies . . . you've given me some good comebacks. I enjoy hearing the remarks you get on your cars . . . keep'm coming!!!
My favorite was when a late model black caddy with two young and pretty girls pulled along side of me racing their engine and wanted to race me. I just smiled and told them I'd give them a head start. Heck, they didn't know I had an L-48. They would have kicked my a$$
