Default Door handles

Has anyone used reproduction outside door handles for 69-82? There is a large difference between GM OEM handles ($1498.99) and reproduction handles (29.99). I would appreciate and feedback on how the reproductions worked and how happy you were with them. Thanks, Tom

Look at Zip and others for GM Restoration door handles. Better than the cheap ones, but no where near as expensive as what you show....

OK, there's a typo in there, right? Maybe $149.99 or something close....

I have heard that '68 door handles are unique and can get expensive but '69-'82 from GM are around $150 a pair. That said, the GM version are generally considered better made and longer lasting and if you've ever changed one of these ... you don't want to have to do it again.... ever... (By the way, get the gasket, too.)

My .02,

kdlp

Yes there is a typo. I should have previewed it before I posted it.

Ive used both OEM and the "offshore" reproductions. This is one of those PITA jobs you dont want to do over. I'd pay the difference and get the GM parts.

The chrome plating on the cheaper handles is not very good. I don't know how important appearance is to you?

Alan

Mine are only 3 months old and already the chrome is worn through. Get the OEM type.

My cheapies look good and work good, but it's only been a few months. Time will tell. Fingers crossed.

I did go with the OEMs about 3 years ago. They look fantastic! Like the others, you only want to do it once, so spending the extra few bucks is worth it.

Did mine about 18 months ago - not an easy job. I totally agree with the OEMs - been very happy with them on my '75.

I bought the off-shore cheapies. Installing wasn't too bad compared to other upgrades I've done. They look much better than the old ones pitting and sagged.

I was initially disappointed with appearance quality. They have a wavy appearance. Once I got them in, I don't really notice. The fingerprints bother me more. Time will tell whether they hold up. Next time I'll spend a little extra for OEMs. I'm a slow learner and very cost aware. Drivetrain, brakes, etc I won't skimp on.

The cheap ones are junk. They will start to sag.

I have a 68.
Tried the repros a few years back, didn't last long before they sagged.
Go with the OEM, it is still true that you get what you pay for.
They are in a very visible place so not where I would want to skimp.
