Car Show Rant

As said by others, Vette shows are a social event and its great to just spend the day hanging with fellow enthusiasts. We have fun and those who are serious about awards get what they want too.
Pictures can be seen on The Glass PACK website.
I love to Detail Like A Mad Man. It's therapy! So guys are into their Lawns, for me it's Detailing my machine
But as far a shows go, I've tried "Classic Chevys" and they won't Let me in (so much for raising money for charity) Because even though an 82 can get Antique Plates its not OLD ENOUGH.
I've done a few Cruze Nights, Okay but honestly like the judged shows. No matter who is juding them. I have a teenager who can spot wax build up from five feet on any car! I have more fun "Snatching First" from another Vette Buddy. It's Fun. But If I take second (or nothin) so be it! Thats why I have a day job!
That's a different story than "Giving" a trophy to someone. Can't stand that. You guy have heard the story of the "Best Engine Bay" Trophy that was given out prior to the judges even getting to my car.
Oh well Pet peeve I guess.
Can't Change People, so I'm gona keep goin anyway!

I do NOT, however, agree with someone being disqualified because the car is too new, or the wrong brand, unless that was specified.
It seems a car should have one or two of the following to be in a show:
1. Performance
2. Old but still in awesome shape
3. Completely unique in a tasteful way, either performance mods, style mods, etc...
4. Rare...either because of customization, difficult to find when new, difficult to purchase (price, overseas, etc.), only a few left, etc...
I know plenty of 'ricers' from the late 90's, early 00's that fit as many of those as your chrome bumper C3's do...I agree with your problem statement, just not all of your assumption of the cause...If there were entry requirements, then sure, i'll follow the inclusion/exclusion. but if not, if it's just a 'car show'...then any car that's not 'run of the mill' should be okay. I just hope judges would have more common sense than you all say they do. again, i agree with the problem, just don't agree that you've identified the correct 'cause' of that problem.

However, I figure a trophy is just a bonus for having a great day with other car folks who like to hang out. Don't get me wrong, I've got a trophy or two, and do enjoy getting the recognition, but at the end of the day I've gotten more enjoyment from talking to folks who appreciate my ride, and tell me what they are doing with theirs, ask for advice etc..
I enjoy driving my Vette. when I started working on my Vette I found that if you weren't in the click the only way I could win is to have it rain and a lot of cars would leave. I just came back a 3,300 mile cruise. Looking at my front end and you can see how much I enjoy driving my Vette.
i agree, im 23 years old with a 1978
i hate all this kids with these new cars that know nothing about them.
or even worse know about their car and nothing about classics.
so what...they can read a manual.
as peter griffin would say
"do you know what really grinds my gears? ...."

I've been going out to the car shows over the past month and the Vet owners that I've tried talking to were absolute snobs or part of an elite group of retirees with no interest outside their Corvette click. They had no interest in conversation and just wanted to discuss how many cars they had and how much their car is worth. "Everything" IS original and on some it was noticeably not the case.
I go the shows to check out the cars, meet people, talk cars and mainly get ideas for my own Vet. I won't show my car because once I walk through I'm anxious to get in mine and take off.
I had a conversation the other day with a 76 owner. He just dropped a new engine in and was complaining about the "ORIGINAL Crossfire engine"
The entire engine was topped off with chrome bowties and not the correct (chromed) replicas. Thanks, have a nice day.I tried talking to another guy with a detailed engine, new paint, new interior and a dash cover
He stated he bought the car for 9K and paid 20K in restoration. I asked a few question and it was clear he had NO clue. Thanks, have a nice day. I guess the cool Vet owners were walking around enjoying themselves.
Side note: I was cruising the Jersey t.p. home tonight and hooked up with a red C4 for some spirited driving. If that was anybody here.
