I have used the tried and true two person method for bleeding brakes many times, however, now I am in a spot where I do not reliably have any help when I am working on my car.
Has anyone used something like THIS to bleed their brake system? If there is something else out there that is a better alternative, I'd like to hear it.
I've used the check ball type speed bleeders before too, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with something that either used an air compressor (which I have) or a hand pump to clear out the system.
From: Ville de la Baie Quebec. A winner is just a loser who tried again.
These are nice products,,,, You can also weld an air fitting on an old master cylinder cover or piece of steel with a rubber seal,, held down with a large C clamp, connect your compressor to it with about 20psi,,, works great !.
I use one of these also BUT I don't put any fluid in the thing. I fill the res and just use this to pressurize the system. One of these things comes off the top of your res. blowing brake fluid all over the place and you'll be one p-$$ed off person.
I tried the Mity Vac, 2 person bleeding and have found that speed bleeders work the best for a 1 man operation. Loosen them pump away, then tighten them and you are done. Clean, simple, and cheap.
I just got my brake system all installed and going last Friday. I used this to bleed:
It's just an old vacuum pump with a canning jar screwed into a filter base. I used a clear tube from the bleeder to the catch jar. The fluid enters the side and drops down a 1/2" pipe nipple so's it doesn't get pulled into the pump. I pulled a lot of old, brackish brake fluid out of those lines.
This thing will empty a reservoir chamber in about 15 seconds, so you can't get carried away and forget to shut down and refill. When I was done I had hard, firm brakes the first time. No muss, no drips on the caliper paint.

That is a great idea. I'll have to try that next time. I hate it when I drip fluid onto the frame and steering box.
I tried one of the hand held vacuum bleeders. It didn't work for me.
The thing about the Motives, you can't use the supplied chains. Put a piece of 3/4" plywood or a steel plate and use a large C-clamp. I got so mad after useing mine brand new one, I sent them a nasty E-mail. they (motive) made me this- pic. they used to supply this steel adapter plate and it doesn't leak a drop. they went to plastic about 5 years ago. Love my steel adapter. Use a piece of wood and a C-clamp. C.
I've been using the plastic lid with a c-clamp. What did you put on the bottom of the plate?
Motive actually made it for me. They're local out here, in berkely. I checked it out, it's the same seal they use on the plastic one, just glued on with some very strong adhesive.
