Default 80-82 Rear End Change

So, all of us with the lousy "Batwing" designed aluminum rear end.

Have any of you changed your gearing? I talked to my mechanic and he said that he searched all of his vendors and some that weren't even his, and could only come up with 1 (yes, that's a one) posi mid-3 gear in the country. Reason being is that aparantly Dana went out of business, and our limited run rear ends don't have any parts available for them.

Does that mean that nobody has EVER changed the gearing on an 80-82 rear end?

Send a PM to GTR1999 and have him check his sources. I find it hard to believe your guy didn't find anything unless he has very limited sources.

Several of the regular Vette vendors have 80-82 rebuilts with just about any gear you'd want...so my guess is they must be available from somewhere.

I wasn't suggesting he do the rebuild...just help the OP source the proper parts. He would know off hand the best place to get them.

I changed my 82 to a 3.55 at Cottman Transmission - they work on race cars on the side. Whatever I wanted, they could get.

That's who I took mine to. He told me if I can find the parts, they'll do it. I'm going to give Tom's a call today.
