Had my VEtte tuned up months ago...I checked the dipstick and it's overfilled (tranny)...It leaks on my garage floor, annoying. Think it's a leak or would it come out (normally) from being overfilled.
I think it's more likely that it would have leaked in any case though a higher level probably increases the flow. Not really hard to fix the seals(except maybe the front hub to converter seal) but you have to replace them to stop the leaks.
As an aside, are you measuring the fluid level with the car running? If not,you are not getting the true, working level.
Measured with it off...working level? Isn't that more so for the engine??

It could now be leaking where the dip-stick tube enters the tranny case from being overfilled.
Good place for a leak if it is overfilled.
Aren't there instructions on the dipstick on how to check the fluid. I know there used to be.
Any way...car running on level ground and I believe it should be in neutral.
Park, but more for safety than any difference in the resulting level.
Some of the older GMs used to put in the owner's manual that you had to check the level in gear with brakes applied. You can just imagine the outcome of that recommendation. I think their lawyers made them change that one.
