So my 69 coupe has undercoating. I mean the stuff is everywhere: frame rails, half shafts, trailing arms ect. The stuff looks like it's been there since 69 and I have found no signs of rust on the car. Was this stuff available applied at the factory or was it a dealer option? Is it normal for the stuff to be everywhere like that even on the suspension parts? Wouldn't the coating on the half shafts and driveshaft cause inbalance?
My 69 has it too. I'm slowly getting rid of it though.
Remember this in the 70's???
"Hello Rusty Jones, good-bye rusty car...."
It was big in the 70's to get that crap sprayed on the underside, but hindsight is 20/20!
Did it's job though! No rust!
I picked up a '51 Chevy that has a ton of it everywhere. It looks horrible but the car is still on the road and has light rust where the undercoating has peeled off. I guess it did it's job.
Looks nasty doesn't it?

When I stripped down the 73 frame that I bought the only areas that had any rust pitting were those that were covered by the undercoating. The rest of the frame that was only painted was smooth. Fortunately there wasn't a lot of undercoating on the frame.
I have no undercoating at all on my 1970 but living in the South probably has something to do with it. Living in the Green Bay area during the 70's all cars were undercoated - if the dealer didn't do it the Zbart (sp?) guy down the street did it.
