For what its worth, when I was new to my Vette, my original alternator failed, so I thought it did, and without thinking, I traded it in on a core at a local Checker Auto store for a rebuild. It was only after I got the new unit installed did I realize I gave up my deep groove pulley, which was a few days later.
Turned out it wasnt even the alternator, but the exciter line coming from the idiot light that was open.
But since then- (summer 2002) I been running the non deep groove alternator and have never thrown the belt.
Making the switch up to a CS144 this year and it also has the non deep groove V-pulley.
