I have a 73 and am looking to do some nice wheels on it.
I need some ideas from you guys as what to run. I want to go as deep as possible but I do not know what my 73 can handle. For the most part the suspension and everything is stock. I am looking to go with a set of custom Boyds.
Question
Can I go with a 18 inch front and 19 inch rear? Has anyone done such a thing?
If I can't do that I was thinkinf of doing 18's all around.
Question
Does anyone have a 315 tire in the rear. If so how did you do it???
Your not gonna get a 315 in the rear without major mods.
I had 18 x 10's (5.5" backspace) in the rear with 295's and they JUST fit. Any wider you would need to a) move the rear chassis rails inward or b) flares.
I have a '71. Up front, I run 275x40x17's and in the rear, where I have offset trailing arms, I run 335x35x17's. The fronts are tucked nicely in the wheel wells, but the rears stick out a tad. I wanted to get as much tire as I could in the rear to handle a big motor, but it still breaks em loose in almost any gear. I think either 315's or 305's would fit just right and handle almost any motor other than a monster. Go to my pics and take a look. Here is a better one that shows exactly how they fit.

Agree 18 x 10's with 5.5 BS should fit, but 295 x ? ...35's? ...and how much wheel well clearance and at what ride height? (I'm full of questions, no?)
FWIW, 285/40's apparently yields the same 10.4" tread width, but with nearly 27" diameter (295/35 is 26.18"). Don't know if that clears with lowered C3's tho.
Sorry I made a type, that should be a 285. I had 285/40-18's on the rear with 10" wide rims, 5.5" backspace (even with that size tire, with the car lowered and a full tank of gas under suspension compression the tire would just hit the inner side of the wheel well). This size will fit "inside" the fender lip, so you can lower the car. Any wider and the tires will stick out and will hit the fender lip (which leads to a nice bill from the body shop for fiber glass repair!)

OK. That's good to know, as I had been thinking the 285/40-18 should be good. BTW, the width of the inner lip can be reduced as per newer generations, and IMHO looks just fine when done properly to all 4 corners.

Do you have a shot from behind? to show just how much the rears are sticking out?
Unfortunately, I don't have a great shot of the rear of my car - which I jokingly refer to as "a familiar sight to the rest of the world." However, here are some that I hope help. I will try take a better one this weekend and send it to you.
