Default Pypes Stainless Exhaust

I just received my Pypes Stainless Exhaust from Summit but was expecting the mufflers to be polished. I've seen several pypes exhaust pictures on this forum that came that way. I never noticed or was given that option when I purchased it, what gives? Pypes Performance SCC10S

Mine are polished. But I have the StreetPro system. Don't know if that makes a difference.
Mine did come without polished tips, called Pypes and they sent a replacement set but it took about 2-3 weeks as they were out of stock/backordered.

This is the description from Summit Racing and it stated StreetPro, I also didn't get any tips.

"Pypes Street Pro Exhaust Systems
Exhaust System, Street Pro, Crossmember Back, Stainless Steel, Natural, X-Pipe, Chevy, Corvette, V8, Kit"

From reading previous threads on this, it seems as if some people got polished Pypes kits, and others did not. And there seems to be a lot of fitment problems with some.

Wow, I've been considering getting this kit.

Does anyone have pictures of the fitment issues?

Care to share what headers you're using, and if they seemed to contribute to the fitment issues?

Does anyone know what the issues are?

I bought mine direct from Pypes and they came unpolished and I thought they would be polished from the pictures on the website. Polished mufflers were a little more and they exchanged with the additional $. It did take me 2 attempts as the polished replacements they sent were unpolished (the same as the ones I sent back). The second time they sent the right ones.

I haven't fitted the back yet which seems to be the issue. Won't do that until I drop the body. I also had to order the stainless extension for the headers (Hooker Competition) from Pypes separate and cut, fit and weld the S connections.

RobRace10 , I ordered a straight piece of stainless pipe to fill in the gap between the collector and first pipe as shown in your picture. Do you have any idea how long a pipe is needed to bridge the gap between the two pipes? I'm thinking aroung 16". Mines a 75' with TH400 tranny.

What year is your car?
On my 78, it was a challenge even for my muffler guy. The left/driver side rear S pipe was short by about 1"

Use the Advanced Search and include the Archive section - Search for Pypes as in the thread title. You'll find loads of info and picts.

From the header flange to where the pipe would seat fully into the S tube it's 12". From the header flange to the cross member is 21"
It could vary by Header MFG.

Thank you, I did find a bunch of threads last night. You guys have made me quite nervous about this kit!

I can TIG the joints myself in my garage, but I don't want to fool with something that just doesn't fit right. If Pypes steps up to the plate and takes care of their quality problems, I might consider buying them but all these problems are not compelling me to spend the kind of money they are asking me to part with for their product. If it has to be re-engineered one piece at a time, there's no way it's worth the cost of a mature product.

I can't speak for fitment, but I think it's just the wording that is throwing you off on the polished vs. unpolished part. The description says...

"Pypes Street Pro Exhaust Systems
Exhaust System, Street Pro, Crossmember Back, Stainless Steel, Natural, X-Pipe, Chevy, Corvette, V8, Kit"

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think that just infers that the whole system is regular natural stainless steel, non-polished. I would think that if it was polished that it would state that in the description. I am not sure if they discontinued the polished one or if only a few lucky guys got them but your best bet is to probably call Pypes and speak to someone there about it regarding the description.

They're under the car exhaust pipes. Why do you want them polished?

Why do you want them polished? After ALL the hard work fitting this system on the WRONG CAR at least you can feel somewhat happier when you look at it

The tips are not mounted yet! I will not be using clamps.

Hammadown, your system looks awesome. Makes me want to order one for mine. One question for you, what crossmember do you have in there with no holes? I am about sure you cut the bottom half of the holes out of the crossmember and welded it up.

Yes thats a bto crossmember when I did my 200r4 swap I thought it would make a nice addition DID I need it? .....NO, but it does clean up the bottom nicely and gives more room for the 2 1/2'' exhaust

Robrace10, where did you get the s pipes?. I am getting ready to do this but my Hooker Headers are a lot further back toward the crossmember than yours,it will be a very tight bend.Does anyone ever go under the crossmember with 3" pipe?. Also will your collector flanges hit the floorboards?.

I can't remember if they came with the system or I ordered them from Pypes when I got the extensions but for sure they came from Pypes. I don't think you would want to go under the crossmember. Can't say about the flanges hitting as I haven't had the body on since putting the system in.
