I recently purchased a new starter for my 69.. It just started having a problem with getting it to start after i go for a ride.. I assume its the heat.. i saw in another thread about the heat wraps u can get for them at jegs!! Has anyone used these and what were the results?? I have side tail pipes so i have no exhaust near by any solutions?
Check the ground under the car. Way too many cars are diagnosed incorrectly because of a bad ground under the car. It`s a gamble whether it will crank fast enough to start because of that situation.

I never have a problem cranking it over cold.. But what i have noticed that.. when i first put the starter on, it cranked over super fast.. now cranking it cold its not as fast as it used to be.. i have to crank it for about 6 seconds before it fires if it doenst fire on the first go around i have ot crank it a second time and it fires right up..
as for the headers.. i will have to look and see how close it is to the starter.. mind you the last starter that was on the car was a light duty one and i had the same problem.. it would shut down when it got hot..
I'm having the same problem on my '75 starter, small block, stock exhaust. It needs a cool down period before it will re-start. Sometimes it's as much as 45 minutes. Faster if I open the hood all the way and let some of that high HP heat out.
dealt with this problem for years on my 79 L82. if you are running headers and they come any where near the starter you'll probably have hot start problems IMHO. i installed a mini gear reduction starter along with a remote solenoid and it totally solved the problem.

Do you have a link or any pics of what ur talking about??
good luck hope this helps. like i said it totally solved my hot start problems and i live in south texas at least as hot as florida. like i said if you're running headers this is probably the culprit. i assume the "blanket" you're talking about are the insulating "wraps" that go around the starter. these may prolong the life of the starter but i found it had no effect on my hot start problem.

thankyou i appreciate it.. I will be looking into this for my vette!!!!!!
Also go out and buy the biggest baddest battery you can find, older, cheaper batteries cannot output the amps needed when the starter get hot and draws more power. make sure your engine to frame ground strap is there also.
