Default t top adjustment

Hi folks
I bought a set of blue glass t tops from a 79. I am trying to fit them to my 76. I have the attachment points lined up and things work fine until I get both on. I have about an inch (or better) gap between them. It looks like hell. Is there any typ of adjustment (loosening or tightening that I can do ti make them come closer together?

Otherwise, I have a beautiful set of blue glass t-tops for a 79 coupe for sale.

Er, well, there should be a gap between them in the center, right? At least there is on mine. They look find to me. The important spots are the front to back and outside gaps. You can adjust or shim as needed. I got inside the car to adjust mine, playing with the shims and loosening and tightening and shifting them around as necessary till they fit good.

I had the added headache of having new weather strip, which made getting them aligned properly even harder. If you have new weather strip like I did, leave the tops on for about a month once you have them set, so the weather strip settles in.

Ahhhh, OK yes a gap would be necessary. One wouldnt want them on top of each other. I just figured that where the factory tops sit much closer together that these should as well. he outside edge of the top is lined up withthe groove in the chrome underneath. Too Much Space!!

Glass top alignment might be a little different from that of the fiberglass tops. The trailing edges of the glass tops sit above the halo panel at the rear. Do not attempt to tighten these down to make them flush. Ditto for the front latches: do not lay on these to get them to tighten up. You'll crack a top. You should also expect to to a little tweaking on door glasses to get them to snug up to the new tops.

My advice is to purchase the 79-82 AIM and check the factory installation for glass tops.

Mike and mia are very correct on this one thing, the center two bayonet hold downs are ajustable with three or four thin shims to add or take out. IE: if you add shims, the tops will come closer together. however you need to keep an eye on the front leading edge of the tops and the amount of reveal between the tops edge and the windshield frame. Also if you have new weatherstripping as Mia suggested, I'd coat the weatherstripping with silicone grease which will ease in the fitting process. Also, I had a 79 and the side adjustment has the clamp down at the front and the pin insert at the rear of the side window at the T-top. I'm not sure of a 76, but on a 79 that "Pin Insert" on the drivers side is both an adjustment and a switch for the alarm system. Also, there was a tech bulletin I think I still have from 1979, in which the directions show you how to file the three flat head screw holes downward so the top fits tighter in the right rear( The rear pillar post area) you really need a AIM which show in detail what and how to adjust the tops so that they are apart about 3/4 to 1 inche at the center support, while still pulling down tight at the side window. I'm sure from reading this all I have done is confuse you, you need a AIM to do this properly. This is a job that takes a lot of patience and time. good luck.

I played with them today for a while and basically loosened everything, put them on the car and tightened them down in place. Right now it looks like a reasonable fit (about 1/2" between). Seems to be a tight fit all around.
Thanks for your help
