Default Stainless side vents

Hi folks
A while back there was a post with a pic of a 74/75 ish vette (red I think) that had inserts in the side vents made of stainless mesh. I have been searching for the post. DOes anyone know whose car this is?
It has been nagging at me and now I must install my own. (a week before the Atlantic NAtionals)...never learns...

Really nice! Where can you find the stainless screen?

I did this to my Vette as well. I used a $5 roll of aluminum gutter screen. I just cut a section of screen out, reached down, and cupped it over the opening, bending it so it fit snug around it. Then I removed it, covered the back sides with a bead of RTV, and then put the molded screen back in. The passenger side was super easy, but the driver's side has so much crap in the way that it was very hard to get my arm down there with the screen, and still have enough movement to properly mold the screen. I tried ten times on the driver's side, after a single success on the passenger side.

I just posted above that I used aluminum gutter screen...available in almost any hardware store like Ace or Lowes for $5 a roll. I think it's better than stainless for it's ease of installation too.

Looks cool.
Has anyone made their vents more functional?

What do you mean functional? I put brake lights behind mine.

I have a 73 and my vents don't look to me like they vent anything, ie let air flow through them to cool the brakes.

I was told their purpose was to vent underhood heat at speed.

Yep, the fan pulls air through the radiator, and when you're moving the chin spoiler forces air in too. Hot air has to leave, and it gets forced out those side vents as well as getting pulled out from under the car.

Hey Matt
what did you say you used for holding the mesh in place? Is it like urethane? silicone?

Here is a source I used for the stuff I got. You can easily fiberglass a frame for this stuff to make a removable piece for your vents.
you can fill out a request and get a free 6" sq sample
http://www.mcnichols.com

just pick out the one you like
mine got here in a week and looks great, its a 6" square piece of 1/2" square mesh in SS
