Here is my experience with driving a little too long on some old tires, orig tires from when I bought it 10 years ago, this happened last summer. No damage to the vette and gave me an excuse to update to 17's.

Where did you buy them from? I've been thinking about buying a set of those, found some great prices online but didn't want to buy an old one so I've held off.

RON, most of the local dealers here could of got them for me but all had to special order them. prices ranged from 85 bucs to 125. really big price difference from different places. since mine were newly manufactured i would guess there not sitting in a warehouse like some tires do. also ron if you order from local dealer you can save shipping cost and if you get and old tire you can refuse it without the hassle from ordering online.

STRANGE:
I was just thinking about tires and age ect........just a few days ago. My tires have 99% of tread on them, no dry rot that is visible on the outside & still have lots of original nubs left on them, ( less then 4,000 Mi on them ) yet they are from the early 80's i'm going to check the date codes later. ( stay tuned )
Eagle GT + 4 I really dont drive the car much, but after seeing that video i think it's time for an update.......... maybe some redlines ?

THANKS FOR POSTING............. A REAL EYE OPENER !!!
You may have saved a few Vettes & Few lives !!!

This was discussed back in May too, I said pretty much the same thing this video said back then (my recommendation was five year max). Small price to pay. Those guys who want to buy original spares and actually drive on them are crazy.

Great post. I've seen firsthand what happens when a tire start coming apart. A few years ago a guy in our caravan back home from Carlisle was running tires from the late 70's on his pristine 66. Fortunately he felt the tire coming apart and pulled over before anything happened. It had a huge bulge in the sidewall.
