Well I checked the fuse (7.5) amp and it was good. If you pull it out you loose the center cluster lights. I read some threads and there is a ground on the pillar adjacent the light switch so it looks like I will be pulling the dash out. Stands to reason the if the 12volts coming from the wiper illumination (thats working) and feeds to the Tach Speedo then it must be something after the wiper illumination.
Anyone have anything I should be looking for once I get the dash pulled out??

When you say pull the dash your talking about pulling the tach and speedo out the front-correct?

hmmm....
Exactly my problem as well. Center lights work, speedo/turn signal bulbs don't. I did discover on a cruise the other night that the high beam indicator does work. Strange.

same, my high beam light works AND my right turn signal works.
(both would work but my front left flasher is out)
so really its just the speedo and tach
Why not just run a 'jumper' ground line to make sure that is your problem first [before you pull out the driver's dash]. If it is a ground problem, that will show it. If that works, put in a more permanent line. (A 'ground' is a 'ground'....)
I found this link which has a schematic of the the bulbs in the dash. I had no idea that a transmission range and AC/Heater bulb existed!(Never worked)..... The main ground in the system looks to be in the pillar next to the headlight switch and the power is fed directly from the fuse box. I could be wrong but my thought is if the pillar ground is bad your instrument cluster (Clock,Oil Pressure, Voltmeter, etc.) bulbs would be out also. Would be nice to replace all these bulbs and see what the lit dash is supposed to look like...
The pillar may be the source of the ground, but there is a separate ground lead that connects to the bezel on the gauge cluster. I sure wouldn't tear into the dash/console unless I proved that it was needed. (just my 2 cents)
I know what you mean 7T1Vette. I was just out in the garage and its about 110 degrees in there and I am soaking wet. I removed the lens on the Tach/Speedo and pushed and tapped on the Tach and speedo and they wouldnt light.
When I attack this problem (When its a little cooler out) I am going to start at the gage pack (Center Gages) connections and trace the grounds. The schematic is excellent for tracing wires....

I think your entry will be easier to just remove the speedo tach. The hardest part is releasing the speedo cable-but I think if you unscrew the the cable end where it attaches to the cruise transducer and let the cable slide through a little bit as you pull the speedo you might not have to get under the dash.
Also you have the newer dash-the grounding is at each bulb via the printed circuit-so you wont have a ground wire attached to the metal bezel to ground the whole thing. There will be on plug on the back that attaches to the printed circiut...that could be where the problem is at the plug in...there are are fine and fragile copper contacts at the plug that can get pushed to the side or bent over.
If you do remove the center cluster be careful with the bulb at the top...it will tear the dash as you pull it out...also watch the sides they get caught on the meatal housing.
