74 power steering problem ??

74 power steering problem ??
When I rebuilt the 454 in my 74, I replaced the old ugly PS pump. Now it feels like it barely has any assist when turning the wheel. Other than when sitting completely still, you'd swear there is no power steering.
I read somewhere about different size fluid orafice on these pumps. Is my fresh "autozone replacement" the wrong pump for this car? I am at the point of just replacing it, but not sure.

Yeah what happened to the old pump? The spring and plunger from your old pump are very important and if yours are gone you'll want to get some original ones to replace the ones int he new pump. However, the new pumps usually have MORE pressure and the stock one because of the spring and plunger...so that might not be your problem.
