It has an old respray but still the original color... it's getting kinda rough but I don't have to worry about scratches.

The question was does origional paint add any value to the car. In most cases no. If You were to compare a 35 yr old car with origional enamel paint to a 35 yr old car with fresh base coat / clear coat - I'm pretty sure 99% of people would say "yeah I'll take the shiny one"-hence more demand = more money. If you had an L-88 car or whatever and you want the car judged on origionality - well I guess the enamel paint would bring more money. I'm thinking in most cases though a fresh coat of paint done nicely would bring more money.

...original factory lacquer paint would probably not
be worth more than a new bc/cc paint job. But for some
enthusiasts, originality has some merit. I would think that
a restored Corvette would probably always be worth more
than one that is original. After all, who in their right mind
would want an original 37 year old car?

I'm a member of the 'original club'. My '71 has original paint,
soft top, interior, etc.

Outstanding example!
One thing I noticed is your rear quarter trims have the cut outs for the shoulder belts but no belts, I heard this could have been with or without holes, neat! WB

Absolutely original paint on my Sunflower Yellow 72.
And, original "almost everything else" too.

Me!
I'm very interested in original cars. Anybody can repaint/rebuild/restore a car (and I have). They're only original once.

The original paint on this 68 lasted 39 years and was way overdue. Value of it was zero in my opinion and did not do the car justice..Old lacquer paint is not pretty with its accompaning cracks, chips, and scratches.

At 39, with last years original lacquer paint and nose bumps.

Now 40 years old and no nose bumps it was repained last fall in its original Safari Yellow in clear coat

When I bought my '69 last Spring (2007), it was mostly original paint except for some repairs... however, after driving it for the summer it was time for it to go... (I took the wheels off the first week)

Leave it original. If the paint is presentable, don't paint it. While the new paint may bring home a $25 trophy, originial paint can only increase the value of your car. As was stated earlier, "It's only original once"

All original and all in need of being redone. It is just so expensive, and I agree it is nice to be able to drive it without being all worried about ruining perfect paint.
