I think the last C3 was 1982 so it has been a few years since the last one rolled off the assembly line. I repainted my 79 this past year and discoverd 3 layers of paint on it. According to the trim tag, the 1st of the 3 layers is the correct color. So I'm betting that most C3s are not the original paint.
a friend of mine says his 74 has original paint. thats what previouse owner told him. but you can see overspray on rubber seal between doors and fender. i dont have the heart to show him.
If it is the "truly" original paint that it left with from the plant, then I would have to say that it would depreciate the value of the car. BC it would be in rough shape, unless it was kept in a climate controlled safe for the past 35 years. Would obviously need a paint job soon, so deduct 2-5k from the price for me. Just my $.02 on the paint issue.
Mine is the original color, but far from the orignal paint. It is now though, the only coat of paint on the car after a complete strip down to fiberglass before paint.
Ours was stored for many years and had 16k miles on it when we got in 2000, all original except for tires and top. I replaced the bumpers 3 years ago and blended the new paint into the old for a match, so the original paint remains from the headlights to the gas door. The paint shows some wear but is still presentable and I have no plans to repaint it for quite a while. It's nice driving it and not worrying about chips or scratches as if it were new paint.
I would rather have an original car because you know exactly what you are working with and what it will need.
Tired, but all original paint except spot mirror color, decided 25+ years ago semi gloss black would look better then dark red. If I only knew any better then
100% original here - from bumper to bumper...including the hood decal and body stipe. Of course she is the youngest of the C3s at "only" 26 years old.
The bumpers are starting to fade even though she's lived in the garage and out of the sun most of her life. I'm soooo tempted to replace them but continue to hold off...
This picture was taken this past Feb on her 26th birthday.
