Has anypone here installed their own luggage rack? I am looking at purchasing an 8 hole rack with pins so I can carry my tops. My stereo equipment has rendered my cargo space too small.
I realize that placement is an issue for the fuel lid, but other than measuring multiple times to be sure, is there any issues that I need to be aware of? DO I have to drop the fuel tank or anything? Will my tops fly off in the wind?
Consider not installing the luggage rack. Lots of people (myself included) won't consider buying a car with a luggage rack on it.
Look into one of those canvas T-Top covers and leave the T-Tops at home when not needed.
OK, having said that, I believe that the 1977 Corvette AIM has a set of instructions for installing the luggage rack, as it was an option from the factory in 1977.
AIM will show only the V54 roof carrier installation since these were done at the factory. Regular luggage rack was a dealer installed option and will not be in the AIM.
Nope, you don't have to get under the car. Just take it slow, make sure you drill just thru the fiberglass, put the plugs in, screw down the rack & you're done.
