The 81 may have an interesting past...
How do you get a 68 vin attached to a 81 body???? Some illeagalities I'm sure.
Car looked ok though until I saw the picture of the frame.
Run Forest! Run!
What did P.T.Barnum say about a sucker?

So now, what do I think is more likely, that someone went to an immense amount of effort to make a '68 look like an '81 (which would more than likely lower its value substantially), or someone pulled something like the above to turn something essentially worthless into a "titled asset"?

The rest of the story is caveat emptor - buyer beware.

I have and they have pulled the ad.

Pulled the VIN off of a 68 and put it on the later model, whatever year it is. This way, in Cali it bypasses the smog police.
Not the case here. The rear suspension is '68-79 or somewhere in between (no batwing crossmember and Dana). Body is '80 and up. It is a mix of two cars. Why? Would like to know the whole story though.
'80 body on an older frame. Worse thing is he had to "transfer" the VIN id plate to the new body to make it look somewhat legit. This is where the legality issues come in.
Old body was probably wrecked or rusted.
Found a new donor body and bolted it on the old frame.
So far not so bad.
Put old VIN on new body-not good. Jail time.
Why do this? My guess is newer body probably hot.

What exactly needs to be "policed" here? I remember tons of cars in the 70s & 80s with full Can Am kits, Maco bodies (he says this, he doesnt know what it is), Eckler wagons, convertible conversions, etc... as well as cars with fully updated noses and tails and interiors.
If whoever, took a junked 80-81, put the body on (did you see the flared wheel wells? Custom work here) and installed the interior, it would not be the most custom Corvette Ive seen all week.
Im not understanding all the overreaction talk about illegal VIN plates, etc. What am I missing?
I think if someone made the accusation to ebay that this ad was fraudulent, they would be out of line based on what I see.
PS- Bman- I was a 100% feedback since 1997 until they changed the rules. I am not happy with those guys!
