Default differential bolt size

I was inspecting my car rear end a couple of days ago and noted that the bolts that attach the rear leaf spring to the differentual were loose, but worse is that one was missing. I adjusted them. Then asked a friend who is a ncrs member which size those bolts were in order to buy a set to replace all the bolts. The size he gave me was 9/16w X 3" 7/32 long. I bougth those but when I went down the car to replace them, the ones I have in the car are thinner. The new ones didn´t even pass through the plate. Has anybody gone through this problem? I will measure the old bolts tomorrow and report back. I'm confussed

My parts book goes up to 1972. It lists: Bolt # 3833486, 9/16" x 3 1/8".
I don't know if it changed after that year.

Alan

The 63-77 used the 9/16 diameter bolts, 3-1/8? long. I'd have to confirm the length which is important because if they're too long then you'll break the rear cover.
The 78-79 used 7/16-14 bolts. Maybe someone used a 78-79 cover? I've found this before.

Gtr1999, I think thats it: previous owner may have changed the diff case. My search also gave me 9/16 bolt. In that case what torque should i apply when adjusting the new bolts? 50-60 ft/lb? or more?

I measured the bolts in the car and they are 10mm thick. I'm king of confussed again as in the case it is an 80 diff case that came in metric sizes aren't the bolts supossed to be 12mm?
