RHS used to use it on the inside of all thier engines. You can use it too.

And whats with all this "the flaking paint will blow up your engine" talk ?? Where did this information come from, Id like to see the engine that suffered its fate from paint chips. We threw this motor in my friends malibu he got for free, that the previous knuckle head painted the heads with the valve covers off, needless to say there was paint chips everywhere, and we werent about to tear it all apart.

Hey guy. Electric motor interior housing coatings is not paint. Paint is paint.

Glyptal was concocted(sp?) by General Electric for their electric motors.

Alternatively I decided to go a different route and while deburing the block I just give a quick polish to the oil valley and do not have to worry about any particles coming loose and entering the oil system, best of both worlds in my opinion.

Legend has it that Smokey Yunick used it in several thin layers to build a smooth surface in the intake ports of heads and manifolds to get around the no polishing rules.....soon after that too was banned

Glyptal is an enamel based insulating coating that is heat and oil "resistant". Alot of old timers coated the inside of the block to seal in stray sand particles and loose metal. The block must be clean, and no oil in the pores. No one does this any more, or at least very few. Most high $$ engines are CNC made and polished. No casting to be concerned with.
Hardly necessary for cruising or getting your car washed at Hooter's.

Got any idea of cost? Judging from the size of a 30 lb dumbbell I have sitting around, they would have to remove a LOT of material to net a 30 lb loss.

I dug the polished look though.

I never said spray paint. Paint comes in cans too so you can brush it on. This is not rocket science.

You asked what the coating is called and I answered correctly, no need to laugh about my answer. You did not ask for a brand name, maybe you should have been more specific and should have taken a little more time to phrase a question correctly.

I'm sorry you feel that my question was vague or misleading. My bad totally.

I did ask what 'coating' and not what 'paint', meaning I already new that the product I was thinking of was not a paint at all. Also, had you known what I meant you would not have had a sarcastic sounding answer ready to go, "It's called paint!"

Again, didn't mean to mislead you, but if I was vague, a simple question to clarify would have been great. My answer was humorous in nature and I'm sorry if it offended you.

Not a paint at all ? That makes my 63 year old head hurt.

Glyptol is enamel (per Eastwood's website) so it is paint.... btw, it comes in aerosol cans as well so you can rattlespray it too.

Rustoleum has been used for years and that's enamel too.
