If U were speaking of the pioneer stuff understand noe everyone can afford to buy high end equipment. Some of us such as myself would much rather suitable equipment suit the application.
Did U cut the top dash pad to install 4x6's is that what I see or is that something sitting on the dash?
No, the speakers went up under ok.
My dash was cracked all over, had large chunks that had came off over the speakers, soooo.... I bought a couple yards of black vinyl at wal-mart and recovered the top dash pad. Of course this left the speaker openings covered over too.... so I cut out the openings and bought a chunk of double wove black plastic screening, cut two 4x6 ovals out of it and glued them to the pad over the speaker holes for grilles.

Just put a USA-630 with the 10 disc changer in the wife's '73 Pontiac Ventura. It looks good, the controls are easy to use, the hidden display is great, and it sounds real good. Used a 2-voice front speaker that came with a nice mount and a pair of Pioneer 6x9's in the rear deck. Their dealer was knowledgable and helpful and a "customized" Pontiac faceplate and hardware was included. Turn around from order to delivery was a week. I knw that some of you audiophiles will find something wrong with it but it sure sounds good to us, even with the headers and duals.

If your talking about custom auto sound its 300 bucks. You can get a decent head unit ffrom a major manufacturer for that

I don't know about the others, but I was only talking about the USA-2. It's about $150. I got mine for just under that off e-bay.
I honestly think it's just different strokes for different folks. I like the old retro looks of the unit, just like I like the analog looks of the stock guages. If someone likes the updated looks of a modern digital, so be it. There's nothing hard about cutting the radio bezel out and installing one.
I've only got just over $300 in my whole stereo set up. But like I said before, I'm not an audiophile, and wasn't after a trunk rattler.
I had one of these in a 66 Mustang. I have another that came in my 78 vette. I was not satisfied with the sound or the reception from either. The Mustang had the USA-6 with the 6 disc changer. I would recomend avoiding them, get the dash panel with the DIN cutout and buy a nice stereo from a local dealer. You'll be happier in the end.
