The tail lights on my C3 are hazy...probably from age. Has anyone had any success with products designed to restore the transparency to hard plastics. I know there are several plastic buffing compounds out there such as Maguire's, but wanted to hear from the voice of experience before I puchased anything. Thanks.
I have the same issue on my 77. The outside of the lens you can polish out without much effort. I found that mine were also on the inside. PITA. I think I am just going to replace them.
Just ordered the three way novus polishing system watch the video.
If it works that good they can stop making old tail lights. So ask this same question next week and ill let ya know how it worked .It wasnt expensive at all 3-8OZ. bottles for $34.00 dollars shipped Its not here yet but on its way.
I worked on mine two days ago. let them sit in hot soapy water for a few hours. I them used toothpaste to clean the outside and I used wax. they look better than before My problem is that one of my tail light lense is new, had to relpace because the bulb feel out on melted the back of the lense. so with one new and the other ones old you can see a big differents
When I got home Friday afternoon my Novus package was there. took one of the worst tail lights out and started polishing well it is not A quick job I had to do it about 10 or so times but when I got done they looked like well not new But just as good I colud see little coatings come off with every polish .Its 3 parts, start with #1 Then if you need to go to #2 the really deep old stuff i mixed the #3 with the #2 the #3 Scared me when I put it on it left a mark but then I mixed #3#2 together It took it off and left a shine that looked new.I put on my flashers and stood behind the car .All I can Say Is WOW.$34.00 inc. shipping and It was worth every penny.Watch the Video . A colple of posts back a guy recomends It watched the video and made the purchase and I would do it again.
The sun's UV rays cause the surface of the plastic to deteriorate and the plastic will start getting cloudy. If it is too far gone, you can't polish it up. Probably, a power buffing wheel with rubbing compound would clear the surface up faster than 10 applications of Novus...but, apparently, that worked, too. You get a "gold star" for 'effort', anyway. Glad it worked out.
