Just got through taking off the gas tank during my frame up resto. The padding between the tank and the 2 crossmembers that it sits on had some kind of strips of material protecting it. Got them off mostly in 1 piece, but would feel better if I replaced them.
They seem to be like felt paper. The kind of stuff I used in putting the roof on my workshop. Is this what it is supposed to be ??????

I think you figured it out. That's what I used. Roofing black felt paper.
Yes, it is roofing felt. But it's 30 lb. (thicker) , than the 15 lb. felt you usually see at your local home supply store. I have a whole roll in my basement that you can have if you pick it up!
