Default Requesting proper color for a shield.

On the '75 coupe there are two metal shields (approx. 10"X10") on either side of the lower rear firewall. One is close to the starter and the other is just below the steering column. From factory where these shields left unpainted, black or grey? Those were my 3 guesses.

You are correct, they are heat shields. I painted mine black satin, same as the firewall.

I believe if they are steel, they should be semi flat (satin) black.

Ok then so it's semi flat satin black, thanks. Second question.....since I run headers, do I need high heat paint since after all, it's a heat shield for the exhaust?

On 70-72 cars the toe board shields were originally plated with iron or manganese phosphate. This is a DARK gray, sparkly finish. The hood latches on the firewall and on the hood are the same finish. While phosphate plating is pretty easy to do there is also a spray can paint available that looks quite realistic. If none of this matters to you semi-gloss black looks good too.

Alan
