Default Open element air filter

What do you guys recommend doing with the valve cover vent tube when switching to an open element air filter? It's a 1978 L82 350.

Take the tube out and replace with a breather. Cost $8 to $50 depending on how fancy you want to be. When shopping take the current grommet with you to make sure you get the correct fit.

The open element unit I have came with a plastic elbow fitting to install in the bottom of the air cleaner housing. I shortened the stock metal tube and connected a short rubber hose from the tube to the elbow. Doesn't look too bad.

That's the ticket. The stock open element systems did exactly that. Valve cover to air cleaner bottom via a hose.

You buy breather vents at a lot of places. The local Advance Auto has them or you can order the vents from Jegs or Summit.
