I lived in Charleston during Hugo so I can sympathize, cost me a car, plane and most of my house. Look out for your family first. I wish you all the best. Skip
I convinced Father in law to let me squeeze her in his garage next to his boat and Grand Marquis. We are now in Baton Rouge and it dos'nt look much better from here. I have 10 brothers and sisters and we are all scattered. One is still not back in her home from Katrina. We are resilient and we will make it. I can get another Vette this is my 2nd, My kids are grown 27-30 yrs and we are together. thats all that matters.THANKS FOR ALL THE PRAYERS WILL POST WHEN IT IS OVER.
I know ther are quite a few of us going through this , I saw you on the road and saluted you Good Luck.
Please don't take this the wrong way. Three years after Katrina and Rita and many people are still not prepared for a hurricane along the gulf coast.
No amount of preperation can save you from a Cat 4 or 5. Boarding up all your windows will not stop your roof from being ripped off. If fill dirt was trucked in 24 hours a day in the three years past, it wouldn't be enough to raise the region the 20' necessary to protect from storm surge. Prayers to those who must endure this.
good luck man.....glad to hear you got it in a covered area!
I'm over here in Lake Charles, LA.....as it stands now, we won't get as much of it as ya'll are getting but we'll still a lot of rain/wind. Who knows, it's still out there and can go where ever. The vette is in the body work stage and tucked away in my grandparents garage.

I agree....it is better and everything is alot more organized (well, since rita hit this area) Alot of people over here have been acting like freaking idiots since thursdaynight/friday. Because of the more advanced warning and media coverage it makes people freak out a lot more. I'm not saying there's something wrong with being/getting prepared/organized, it's just that people are driving like fools (alot of wrecks) and gas stations are running out of gas so that makes people panic so much more.
Hope you guys are all safe. I am here in Gulfport, looks like LA is catching the worst. Here are some pics from Gulfport off of HWY 90 this morning around 0900.
The Waffle House:
This is from the westbound lane just prior to it going under.
I left Baton Rouge on Tuesday and am in Monroe, NC. I have been told the house has minor damage and the boat garage door blew out. The 78 at Grandpas I was told is OK. We still have no power there and could be weeks. Here go the long lines for food and water at least we are Good. I am here visiting the Grandbabies. I will leave on Sunday to go check on everything. I am buying a generator and supplies in NC to take back and share with friends and neighbors. Another rebuild begins.
