Hey guys I don't mess with Sharks that much as my main focus is Midyears. A guy in the neighborhood has a 75 that he's had since new and is freshin it up and putting new paint on it.
The question is that he had the passenger side hinge fail or something and he replaced both hinges. Now he can't get the door aligned right. I went over there today to see if I could figure out what is going on. I thought that the hinges would be similar to mine on the 66 but they are different. The back of the door needs to go forward and above the belt line needs to go forward also. Below the belt line on the front is great.
We loosened all 16 bolts and could not get it to line up. Am I missing something here? Could he have junk hinges? Do I need to slot the door openings so that we have more adjustment? The car has not been wrecked and he said that the door fit great before.. Thanks guys..
Just trying to help this guy out he's in his 60's and has had a stroke somewhere along the line. Today was damn hot though out there, we struggled with it for two hours and I was absolutely soaked...

It might need a shim or 2 or 3 etc... Look what it took to line up my doors Good luck
after rebuilding my hinges my pass door lined up perfectly except it needed to go forward quite a bit. the solution was to loosen up the bolts, then we took 1/4" pieces of wood and put in the rear of the jamb and slowly closed the door untill the door moved forward, then we put a second piece on top of the first and closed it again. it now lines up better then when i first got the car almost 20 years ago. the doors open and close as easy as a new one. if the car has finished paint you might try wrapping the wood with a very thick towel so as not to cause any scratches.
Thanks guys I like the idea of putting a couple of wood shims at the back of the door to move it forward. Fortunately he is stripping the body so there is no paint to damage. With all of the 16 bolts that hold the hinge to the body and the door to the hinge it does not appear to be able to move it forward. However maybe with the shims it will be able to. Thanks...
Anyone got any other suggestions? I hope to get back over there this week but I'm not sure. Dave
