Matching Numbers

Can anyone tell me how to Identify matching numbers of a 4 speed transmission? Does last four numbers 0f the Vin have to match up with the last four numbers of the casting on the trans? Thanks much!

The lower number matches the vin tag and number stamped into the engine pad.

This is a 68 and not knowing what year your vette is or if all were stamped may make my info useless.

My 72 is that way so I'm guessing they all were.

False, the casting number will be the same for all. The VIN is stamped on each trannie and should match the car as others have said.
