I bought an '82 Oil Temp Gauge on FleaBay for my '79 (haven't got it yet). Does anyone know what sending unit I need to use to go with it?
And on the '82 vette - where abouts did the factory stick them on the tranny?
I thought this would be a nice upgrade with my 700R. Although my clock does work - I always have a wristwatch on , so I always know what time it is - Time to take the vette out and cruise !
I've done some research and found that this oil temp gauge is/was actually reading the temp of the engine oil ! Wouldn't this be directly related to the water temp. I mean if the engine gets warmer - both gauges would move up the same.
What do you think - should I be sticking a sensor on the engine or just find somewhere on the OD tranny and monitor tranny temp?
lectriclimited.com has the '82 temp sending units [I think]. Why not put it in the auto tranny so that you have a gauge for trans oil temp? {I agree that water temp and oil temp on an engine doesn't make any sense...unless you race it}.
I installed my '82 gauges with the oil temp gauge with the idea of putting the oil temp sender in the transmission oil pan to monitor transmission fluid temperature. I think I have decided to go back to monitoring the oil temp. I also have an oil cooler with a fan, and a temperature T-stat switch to turn the fan on when the fluid gets above a certain temperature.
