Default Wheel Delivery Question

After searching the forum, I know there are a number of you guys sporting Coys Wheels on your C3's. I didn't know anything about them until I read here in the forum and saw pics of some cars with 17" or 18" wheels mounted up. They looked so impressive that I had to have my own set.

I have questions about Coys and their delivery times to any of you who have purchased their wheels in the last 6-8 months: did you recieve them in a reasonable timeline? [guessing 'reasonable' as 1-4 weeks]

Specifically, I ordered the grey center spoked C5 model in 18x8 and 18x9.5.

I haven't received them yet and I paid for my order in Feb of this year.

I have called them half a dozen times after the first 3 weeks of non receipt; the 2 different sales guys I've spoken with are pleasant to speak to but I don't get firm ship dates to my questions. They continue to offer the shiny versions (chrome or polish) in same sizes but I really want those grey centers for my project. Their business hasn't contacted me once with any updates, even though they have my phone, email and home address. I'm not really interested in excuses and wondering if any of you guys ordered and received same exact models this year?

I've read here that their customer service is weak. They're not the first to do that and I'm willing to give them a pass but geez, 6 months seems awfully long to wait. For those who've bought from them, any thoughts?

I got my 20" C5 wheels for my 64 Rivera from Coys back in February/March time. Took 'em about 4 weeks for them to show up and thats after they had to machine them out for the 5 x 5 bolt pattern (they where the grey centered wheels).
If you haven't recieved your wheels after 6 months, call and cancel your order and get a refund through your credit card company. Shouldn't take that long for a cast Chinese wheel.

Thanks for the feedback, Nick. Rest assured that Coys isn't getting a big donation out of my next federal tax filing. Those dudes owe me and I'd rather have the wheels than the credit.

Not to mention, their price per wheel took the expected price jump since I placed my order. That's the primary reason to continue negotiating for the product but if they're not going to provide them, for whatever reason(s) then I'll ask for my money to be refunded.

The forum seemed a logical place to ask about how satisfied any of their other customers may be about the product or the service. If it's not up to a reasonable business standard, then any of the readers here should know whom they're dealing with and not trade real money for invisible wheels, like my situation is currently at. My bad if I get stuck and if I do, you guys will be the first to know.

If these guys do not deliver, who wants to support a vendor like that? Meanwhile, I'm going to call them again and listen to whatever they say. I'll let you know.

I ordered and paid mine in April and they still don't have them. Over five months is considerably longer than I expected. I got matching tires from other place in couple weeks and they have been sitting in my garage whole summer.

Coys promised to refund until they can actually deliver the wheels.

I like the wheel design and price and I already have tires so I can still wait couple months, but some way or another I'm going to get new wheels for next summer.

There's a thread on another site that deals with how bad Coy's is.

Many things mentioned, such as terrible customer service, overly long shipping times, etc, etc.

One reseller dropped the line due to Coy's hurting his reputation.

And many, many, complaints about being treated to extreme rudeness when actually talking to anyone with Coy's.

FWIW: I would immediately contact your CC company and ask that they help with getting your money back, because I really do doubt that you're ever going to get those rims based on what I've read.

I like the Coys wheels myself but if the time frame they are operating on is how you guys have experienced then I would most certainly not deal with them period. Get a CC refund asap and look elsewhere is my opinion anyway.

That makes my decision easier; I think I'm going with the TT2's from Tomz.

Default They're Here

UPDATE:

Hey Nick and Guys. I finally had my wheel order delivered, yesterday! Check it out.

There's a pair of 18x8 and 18x9.5 C5 design with the grey centers. I knew the wheels would be what I expected and that part of me is very satisfied. Considering they are Chinese manufactured, the out-of-the-box inspection involved no ugly surprises. Actually, I'm quite impressed with the visual quality.

I know some of the CF members prefer 15" dia wheels/tires and may consider 17" or 18" to take away from the Shark lines but I've obviously selected these to try. To each their own, right?

What I feel got Coy's to finally complete this special order resulted from the USPS delivering a registered, return-signature-required delivery confirmation letter to Randy Coy, around the Christmas holiday. I included a copy of my credit card billing with date and price paid to confirm my position.

As much as the letter started out flaming them, I backed off and rewrote the content to simply state that considering the recent business climate, it would be better for both of us to improve communication between us and resolve the order through some agreed to method. I suggested one way (email) to contact me with an order status and reset my expectations.

Around the 6th of Jan, I received a phone call from one of the sales guys I had spoke with previously. He apologized (again) and explained that the lack of communication from them was unintended and they will improve communication in the future with cases like mine. An improved training opportunity, as it were.

He called again last friday and said my order would ship on 1-12. He said if any issues to call and let him know.

Long story longer: when in doubt, document your facts and don't be an a**hole about the explanation but respectfully ask for action. Especially, if they have your money. Business is tough and attorneys are costly; lawyers are always an option but so is escalating the level of communication. Be civil, hope for the best, and be prepared for the worst. It worked out for me here.

Glad you got your wheels man, they are really nice looking wheels, shame you had to try so hard to get them.

Now put some tires on them and get them on the car.

Those look awesome! The more I see the gunmetal centered wheels, the more I think they would look great on the '78 SA with the dual silver paint scheme.

Yup. Gonna trial fit them w/o tires (weather forecast mid-50's here, this weekend). Once I guess-timate whether there are any show-stoppers, I will head to Discount Tire and get them to order the tires. I don't expect them to have any inventory and they claim to have a 2-3 day delivery.

I'm going to emulate TNBusa's (Mike's) setup he was running on his beautiful chrome bumper car: 245/45/18 and 285/40/18. Every time I saw that car, I knew what mine was going to look like.

Think I'll get Discount to order the BF Goodrich T/A KDW model tire in those sizes. Any of you guys have other like-money suggestions? This economy [& my budget] won't allow me to buy the highest end tire but I'm not going to wrap el-cheapo no-names on these wheels either.

I don't plan any regular racing: maybe an auto-x event and a clandestine street race once or twice. Mostly, cruising and the occasional trip around the region.

What do you think?

I don't think you'd regret that decision. Just be sure you find a vendor who can help you in a reasonable timeline!

If you don’t have fender flares please post up if they will rub or stick out past the fender lip. I will be ordering wheels soon and would love to go with this size. I have lowered my car so if they stick out the sides I probably can’t go that wide. Anyway I love your choice of wheel and can’t wait to see some pics.

Dustup7t2,
You may also like to look at the Yokohama S.drive tire, new on the market.
This is one of two of my choices that I have liked. discount tire
and the tire rack have great prices and both have sent me my tires,
from past purchases, very quickly.

Nice looking choice on the rims can't wait to see some photo's.

Riggs.

My car doesn't have flares. The fellas at Coy's had high confidence that the wider wheel is alleged to fit without obstruction and I will confirm that, hopefully tomorrow.

In the meanwhile, click open this link of TNBusa's ride for a hint at how these [hopefully] look once I get them mounted:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...ht=tnbusa+coys

This is the car that inspired me to fetch these wheels, for the obvious reasons.

Thanks for the tip AND kind words, Riggs. I'll log in to discount's website and read descriptions. Is your car riding on these now?

I'm primarily looking to have stable, predictable wet-dry handling. Tire noise won't be a detriment unless they are louder than my sidepipes. Since I'm not racing, I figure a traction rating of "A" is sufficient; I hope to get at least 30K miles out of a set, and more is desireable as long as they're safe. I'll look the Yokohama's over and see what they're forecast to offer.

I appreciate it!

Dustup7t2,
no, I'm not running on them yet, but hope to order them soon. I have two choices,
they are Yokohama s.drive or the BFGoodrich g force T they are both Z rated and have
a great wet traction rating.

Hope this helps,

Riggs.

YEP that’s the car that inspired me to. Do you know if he has gotten it fixed yet? It killed me when they posted it crashed. Anyway I can’t ever get a straight answer whether the tires will tuck under the fender. From the pictures I see it’s very close but I just can’t tell. I have a fiberglass rear spring that has a good bit of motion. I am afraid if I go with this wheel and hit a good bump it will go into the fiberglass. BUT I REALLY want to go with the wider wheel. The look is just killer!!

Last I heard about TNBusa's car, it was sold off unrepaired; parted out. Mike had put so much effort into it during the build and I read he needed to break away from more work to fix it. Not sure but I think he bought a scooter (Harley?). If Eddie_70 or Jamie Slick (Mike's wife) see this, maybe they could offer some news? I hope they are all doing well. That car was awesome.

Back to fitment of the wheels: like you, I want to stuff as much tire under the stock dimensions as makes sense. I will keep you posted with pics and info, as I begin checks.

I have the composite spring supporting the rear axle too and until I can get weight back in the car [motor/trans out now], the data will be incomplete, especially regarding movement. Click my profile & you can see some of the mods in my albums.

Hoping vertical tire travel doesn't interfere on frame or fender; I have offset TA's so not too concerned about those. These wide wheels have a 5.5" bs.

Allegedly, they fit w/275-40 size tire and TNBusa had the 285's on. More info to follow.

Thanks.
