Default Body Mounts

I was told that 68's have an aluminum spacer as a mount, I checked behind the front tire and sure enough there is a spacer there. I was also told if I took the mount from a 73 that are rubber (or Polyurethane) and used them I would get a better ride and less cracking of the body.
Has anybody heard of this?

Yes!
Regards,
Alan

PS: I believe the later spacers are a little bit thicker so it raises the body a little bit.

I used later model (poly) spacers for my '69 when I mounted the body. They are a little thicker. I've heard of some guys cutting them to make them thinner. I am just going to make up the difference when I "adjust" my suspension for appropriate ride height (i.e. lower the car).

Default mounts

Gerrya C3's from 68-72 used the aluminum piece in all eight body mount locations. 1973 was the year this changed thru 1982. The 73-75 convertibles used different rubber body mounts in four of the eight locations. The 73-82 coupes used the same body mounts at all eight locations. I changed to the GM rubber body mounts on my 1970 Vette about 1990. In 1973 after the new 1973 Corvettes were being sold there was an article in Hot Rod magazine on changing the mounts to rubber on the 68-72 Corvettes. I kept the article, bought the body mounts for my 68 convertible and 70 coupe. Have not changed my 68 convertible mounts to rubber. Mayby someday. I would not change from the aluminum to poly. The GM 73-82 rubber mounts will raise the body a small amount. Might be about 1/4 inch on my 70.
You might also run into trouble removing your mounting bolts like a few others.
