Figured after 7000 MILES it must be time to check out the spare tire.
Found an Atlas H P F70-14 tire with 20 lbs of air in it. How old is this tire? There is a 3 digit number (older than 2000) of 147. This should be the 14th week of the year '97? or is it '87? or even '77?
I recently had a blow out and found out that I had the original spare - 28 years old It got me where I needed to go, but we had to fill it up every 20 miles.

My original spare is 37 years old, last time I used it was in 1978.
Atlas was a brand sold by gas stations wearing the "Standard", "Amoco", and even possibly "Chevron" before they all became do it yourself places. How long has that been? In the late '60's I installed a large number of those tires- Put even more of them up on the 2nd teir rack over the service bays.
I don't know of anyone that still sells them- At the latest, I'd have to say the date code would be a '77.. Very possibly wrong.
I recently "discovered" my original 1970 spare, looks like it has never been mounted or driven on. Still has a bit of the blue protectant over the white wall.

My car still has the original spare. Shouldn't they have replaced it when they did the recall?
Anyway, I don't have the spare tire carrier mounted on my car so it doesn't really matter.
