Default Door Jam Repair?

I have a 71 convertible ,the drivers side door jam is missing the lip/edge that holds the rear quarter trim. what is the best way to repair? does anyone make that item to bond on? thanks

The quarter panel trim is held on by metal trim pieces and screws at least on a coupe.

Yes, but there's a fiberglass lip between the metal strip and interior quarter trim. That's what I believe he says is missing.

You know, I've taken mine off several times but never really paid much attention to the jamb but it seems to me that the metal trim pieces screw directly into the quarter panel piece which comes around the edge of the jamb. The metal pieces sit on the outside and sandwich the jamb in between themselves and the quarter panel trim.

I see now that there is a 1-1.5 inch piece of fiberglass that is sandwiched in between the trim pieces.

I think the whole rear jamb section may have to be replaced.

I found it in the Corvette America cataog as LH Door Lock Pillar #1358 for 68-75 convertible $155.99.

Yep. There sure is. You could lay up the missing pieces (easiest), or purchase replacement lock pillar panels (PITA).

DRYS,
Mike is right. I think I'd figure out a way to make a piece to replace that flange long before I'd get into replacing the whole lock pillar cover.

Alan

thanks i guess i'll try and take some of the pieces that i have and try and piece it together. Looks like you need just enough support to attach the quarter trim. Have had enough PITA this year will try and fix.

Please don't think of it as a PITA. Think of it as an opportunity to persevere!!! As soon as you posted that you had some of the pieces, I knew you could do it!

Alan
