Default 68 hardtop mounting help needed

I have an early 68 vert and the hardtop is not the type with the clamps like the convertible. It has holes in the front maybe to go through the bushings? Looks like it just bolts down. Not sure about the back. I have no harware on the top.
If anybody can show a pic of the mounting points it would be greatly appreciated.

My hardtop has 3 clamps on the front...1 left, 1 center, and 1 right. I think it also has guide pins that go into the left and right holes. The rear has studs with washers and nuts on the left and right side that go thru the existing soft top holes, and 1 carriage bolt that goes thru a center hole with a washer and nut to tighten it down. Some have the rear center bolt and some don't. Also, there is one bolt on each side behind the seats that secure the hardtop to the side of the rear lid.

My hardtop only has two holes in the front that line up with the bushing holes for the soft top pins and a area in the center that has a lip that slips over the clamping area. There is no mounting area for the three clamps like the soft top. I have heard that the early 68's are different and maybe use bolt in front also?

Dave,
If you have any pics of the rear deck mounting hardware that would help me out... I'm also having to figure out the right way to mount the top on my '70.

Thanks, Clive.... and I don't want to get in the way of you getting your answer. I was just planning to post the same question today and figured we might get it all in one thread. The mystery for me is the rear mounting studs on each side. Someone has put rubber hose on the stud I guess intending for the spring clips to grab hold of it but it was pretty loose on the car. I also found some nuts and washers in the spare parts box but I don't want to try clamping down on the clips unless this is the right way to tighten it. Hoping for some guidance here.

I'll have to take pictures....taking the top off is a pita!

Looking at this site, I have the following mounting hardware on the rear of my hardtop.

http://www.zip-products.com/Zip/dept...F04D878A33247E

On the rear of my hardtop, I have a 56-75 Hartdop Rear Stud on the left and right, fastened with a large washer/smaller washer/nut. In the center I have a 63-75 Deck lid Ferrel mounted in the deck lid, with a carriage bolt that is approx. 3' long (bought at hardware store)...it fits in the bracket in the center below the rear window if you have one and goes through the ferrel, fastened with a fender washer/lock washer/nut. On the sides behind the seats, I have 56-75 hardtop bolt with washer that goes thru a 56-75 hardtop mount anchor mounted in the side of the deck lid.

I wish there was a better breakdown of the needed mounting hardware.

It looks like some one put a rubber hose/sleeve on your studs maybe to reduce rattle or? Also, I have a thick concave washer that goes onto the stud first that rests against the rear spring clip assembly, followed by a washer and nut like yours.
I see that you have the center carriage bolt too.
Do you have the bolts for the side mounts? If you aren't sure, they go under the flap that I see in your picture and you'll see threads in the side of the deck lid behind the seats.

Clive,
You've been a big help! Thanks. I've got some studying to do and it looks like I need some parts.

That was a pretty interesting read, even if it did end in a fight.

There seems to be a number of different hard tops out there. I've seen posts that the early 68s are as you describe. Not sure if it's true or not. I do know that there are some aftermarket hard tops that attach at the front with bolts. There are also different stock hard tops as some come with the center, rear locator pin and some don't. Same with deck lids. I think it may be the difference between getting a factory hard top and ordering one from the dealer, but that is pure speculation on my part.
