If I remember correctly it was just over $300 which included the intall kit. If you want the stick that looks like the factory you need to pay another $100 or so.

David - I just did my 69 this past winter & got my shifter & install kit from Summit Racing. I will look up the invoice and email the part numbers and the costs. I also purchased the stock looking shifter.

This may sound dumb, but how can I tell if mines a Hurst or a Muncie shifter?

When I bought the car I was told it's a hurst shifter, but it looks stock and there is slop.

Bit hard to see in this pic but it's the only interior pic i have that shows the shifter. I'll take a better one later when I'm at the shed,

The lever is there, but it seems to do nothing.

I unscrewed the black chrome ball and pulled out the rod, it didn't seem to be connected to anything.

You could have a Hurst shifter with the Muncie lookalike handle. Can you go into reverse without pulling the T up?
edit-Does your handle have 2 holes at the bottom and bolt on like this one in the pic,if so its a Hurst.

only annoyance i had with my hurst (back when I had it) was the annoying buzz on long road trips. since the shifter is mounted to the engine tranny - all the vibration comes up through it. the factory shifter is mounted to the frame and thus somewhat isolated form that.

As for the precision side of the discussion - no argument - you can row through gears with confidence with a hurst.

I just made 2 recent road trips - one to Corvettes@Carlisle and heard no bussing sounds. Wonder if something is loose or something else is echoing the noise through the shifter. Maybe a bearing?????

The factory shifter is mounted to the frame. The hurst is mounted right to the trans.

To be precise, the factory shifter is mounted to a bracket which is then mounted to the transmission crossmember whereas the Hurst bracket mounts directly to the transmission tail section.

Here's a little video I took a few weeks ago of the shifter while driving on some local roads. You can see very precise and almost locks into each gear with a fairly short throw.

Never driven one without the Hurst, but I'm loving it! As a few others have stated, no play, solid shifts, you know where you are at all times.

One thing among many that always bothered me about the Muncie shifter was that in neutral it wobbles back and forth.

Muncie shifter?

I'll have to dig out my old documentation. I was always under the impression they came from the factory with Hurst designed shifters (the active T bar)

naint ne'er herd o dis muncie shifter

I think if someone starts getting into the books the tranny is a Muncie and the shifter is a Keisler if I remember right but most refer to it as a Muncie shifter.

This was a great example of the shifting ease with your Hurst shifter. Thank you for sharing this with me. I remember the T-Handle shifters of long ago, great to see it in use and being enjoyed again. My brother had a 1970 Duster 340 and he had a Hurst Shifter put in and used the exact same style of shift handle. Talk about flashback of memories, , your video did just that just now.
Thanks for sharing this.
Best regards,
David

My pleasure. When I saw this thread I thought this a perfect time to show the Hurst in action. My son & I were trying out the video in my wife's camera and it came out pretty well.
