I have a Hurst in mine but I must need rebuilding. It is often hard to get it lined back up to the 1-2 gate from 3-4, which especially when downshifting from 3 to 2 can be a pain. Also when stopped and going from 4 back to 1, I usually go to 2 first and then up to 1, I usually find it easier to find 1 that way as opposed to going straight from 4 to 1. Lastly, it definitely buzzes going down the highway.

Are you using the alignment pin?If the bushings are good they usually line up pretty easy.

You might make sure the nylon bushings on the rods haven't disintegrated.
Also, make sure no one used cotter pins or any other type of pin to hold the rods onto the shift levers. They need to be retained by the correct style clips in order to be sure the rods won't move around while shifting. I can't remember if they are called e-clips or what but they do look like lower case e.
Got busy this weekend and didnt' do anything about it. Can someone explain the alignment pin DWnnchs refers to? I'm lost on that one.
I have a pin that came with a shifter years ago and I believe it is 1/4" (.250)but I have used a 7/32" allen wrench when I couldnt find the pin. There is a hole that goes through the shifter for the pin that puts all the arms in alignment. You remove the shift levers insert the pin and then adjust shift rods so the levers go back on tranny and then pull the pin and your set.
