Default Engine Compartment Opinion

I was thinking that it may look cool painting the fender wells and fire wall the same color as the car(Bright Yellow). Or would that look too 80's? This is on my '76 and I really don't care for it being "original".

leave it black and add some chrome if you don't care about the factory look.

Thanks for the opinions so far guys. I like the idea of painting it Yellow to be a little "different" from the norm. However, I like just plain black....so I dunno what to do. Since I have the engine out, I am re-doing the compartment anyway so now is the time to decide.

Gloss Black would look good. you could also do a yellow splatter design on it.

I'm doing an S-10 race truck the same way (hugger orange) we have all the panels off and it's easy to do. We are using the same base coat as the rest of the truck. I've seen this in some of the shows and it looks good-if it's done right. I painted my 78 semigloss black because I wasn't painting the car at the time. I say if you have the engine compartment open, why not? It may take some extra cleaning- I would make sure to clear coat it to make it easier to clean. It's really a personal preference. I don't think it's too 80's though...DDBS

Just paint the car black to match the engine compartment...seriously tho, I kinda like Sixfooter's splatter idea.

Gloss black is really "cheezy" in the engine compartment. Keep it semi-flat or semi-gloss. If the car is ONLY a show car, do the "yellow" thing.

here is something to think about before you make your decision. For your engine compartment to look as good yellow as the outside of the car, it will have to look as smooth as the outside of your car. This will require a lot of work. If you paint a gloss color on a rough area such as the engine compartments of our cars, it will not look very good.

Food for thought

It wouldn't look too 80's. It would look too ugly 80's.

Ok so I voted for black but my opinion would be to paint the firewall yellow and leave the rest gloss black. Then I woul duse plenty of chrome and yellow accents! but please stay away from the yellow wire loom it looks to ricer!

Later
