Default Obnoxious ebay nagging about shipping

Check out the notice (in red) I got today after listing a set of hub caps, (heavy) with $19 shipping anywhere in the US:

Attention Seller!
We noticed your shipping cost looks high compared to other listings in your category with similar shipping services. .

We've found that buyers are sensitive to shipping costs. Items with high shipping costs may be less likely to sell and may get less visibility in search results. Listings that violate the eBay Excessive Shipping Charges policy may be removed from the site.

Please review your shipping costs and make changes if necessary. For help, click the Research rates link in the shipping section.

This was the second of 2 notices they sent me while listing. They have already said they will start telling listers what they can charge for shipping in the near future, even if the amount is not enough to ship the item.

Yeeek. It's still the only game in town, and they know it.

I think all you have to do is list the items without the shipping costs. Then add them to the buyer after the item sells. I always charge a $5 - $10 handleing fee, depending on the item, and just give them a shipping calculator to figure out the buyers own shipping.

I`m expecting ebay to buy or start their own shipping service any day now and require everyone to use it like they are planning to do in a couple of weeks with pay-pal, after all they control every other aspect of the "ebay experience". interesting that your shipping charge is at the low end for shipping 4 Corvette hubcaps...they must all be brain dead at ebay. I`m also starting to think it might pay to rejoin the NCRS if only to advertise in the driveline.

They specifically say this in the FAQ. They know their shipping estimates might not be enough to pay for it, and they say for you to make it up in the sell price. Unbelievable.

I sold a hand crank for a '31 Model A on fleabay about a month ago and got the same nasty-gram 3 times.

What I was charging in shipping was actually $5 less than what it really cost me to ship the item FedEx.

Truthfully the shipping is expensive a lot of times. I try to ship as fairly as I can, but every time I post acurate numbers, just the cost of shipping, with a random box from the garage, I get the same message. I think ebay knows the biggest buyer grip is shipping, and is trying to mitigate it somewhat. Still its hard to sell a 20 dollar item for 4 dollars just to get the POS out of the garage and then have the buyer say..."What!!! 12 dollars for shipping!! Its just a bellhousing!..."

Arggggh!

Mess like this is why after about 7 years of selling on EBay, I'm giving up. The rules are stupid, and EBay doesn't bother to explain them. For instance, now sellers can't leave bad feedback for scumbag buyers. The buyers are free to hold sellers hostage. EBay has become a pain in the tail and I'm tired of it.

how about buyer pay $5 above actual shipping for cost of box and packing. That is fair to me with any purchase.

give or take for larger items

In the last two weeks they stopped 15 of my auctions, the first one was 2 days after I listed a group of things, the violation was I put in my description that I don't accept Paypal. I got sick of the 4 or so percent fee for receiving payments and now they won't let you remove (transfer) out more than 500$ a month to your bank account. All the military items I put up were 500+ items. Now they are removing things and I am getting no explanations!?!?!?!?!?! I also put a bogus email address in for the Paypal, trying to get past that, 2 bidders put money in that address on Paypal and now I HAVE to open an account there to get it!!!!! Like someone said, if you want to sell, thats the place to do it, so what are you soppused to do!>!?!!?!?!?!?!

Boycott. Let them know you are doing it. Maybe it will spread, and who knows? Everyone is SICK of the crap on ebay. Greed has ruined the whole process.

Forcing buyers and sellers to use Paypal and not allow money orders or checks for any transactions is just a crock! They are pushing a LOT of sellers out of the market. Add me to the list as of today.

They seem to think the business model is better with fixed price sales rather than traditional auctions. At least that is what they have been saying. We realy don't need that as we already have Amazon to do that for us so why do they think this is the way to go?

This is leaving the door wide open for a competitive auction service to start up. I would not be surprized to see AMAZON begin offering an auction space on their web site. Amazon already has a good search engine. Why the heck not?!?! I would do it!

-Mark.

I get the same notice every time I list an item as well, even though I usually lose a few bucks whenever I ship something. To add insult to injury, I just received a notice in the mail of all these surcharge increases when shipping something UPS FED EX and DHL. I cant believe that many surcharges could possibly exist. When UPS made a deal with Mailboxes etc..., turning it into the UPS store, we all got SCREWED!!!

This is a sore subject for anyone that sells anything on EBAY, and even more sore for me since recently as some of you know I earned my first negative feedback because of a feedback extortionist taking advantage of ebays' new feedback system, and they just turned the other way in ignorance because they dont give a crap.

As far as I am concerned when it comes to those shipping notices, they can KISS MY A** !!!!

Supposedly (I dont know for sure) a pretty good sized group boycotted for a week (I think) after they made those ridiculous feedback changes. I think it actually registered a little ripple of less activity... it was in the USA Today. Ebay didnt care, because they know they have a monopoly and they know you cannot be a successful seller without Paypal.

People can talk about boycotting, going to Amazon, etc all they like. Good luck with that.

Merchant possessing is just as messed up...people love to have reward credit cards, but the damn credit card companies charge the merchants a higher rate for rewards cards in order to pay for the rewards. There is nothing merchants can do; not accepting credit cards is just not possible. I got a notice from my processor saying my rate for accepting business cards was going up to help cover the costs of the detailed statements the card holders get with these cards. Why should I pay for their statements…because no one would carry a credit card with a fee, so the credit card companies just pass on all the costs to the merchants...we pass it on and everyone has to pay.

Default Shipping to Australia YIKES!!!

Hey Guys& Gals,
On the subject of shipping, where do some of the companies get there shipping costs (NASA ),
OK I'm in another country but really.
I was just looking on ebay for a set of
spark plug boots (from SU_ _ IT Racing)
$5.90 for 2 caps (fair price- I guess)
Shipping to Australia -
(Most expensive) $146+ $25 handling fee
(Middle) $106 + $25 handling fee
(Cheapest) $44.00+ $25 handling fee

I've also been looking for a spoiler for my '74,
But the shipping costs are WAY beyond my budget.
For a $50 spoiler -
$46.00 (Ebay's own shipping rate ????)
When I made further enquires I got told OVER
$600 (YIKES).
Needless to say,If I'd won this spoiler and expected shipping to be $46 ,
I would have gotten a nasty shock
(Luckily the seller told me about the cost before I'd bid otherwise I'd be stuck paying for it).
And what would Ebay say about it????
Okay I'm just venting my frustration.

Thanx to everyone here for all of your help-
(active & passive).

Gavin
