SEM vinyl dye will work just as well on nylon belts it does on plastic panels. What doesn't work well is RIT fabric dye. It actually says in the instructions that it is not intended for polyester materials. P.S. I would stay away from the aftermarket places that say they are selling aerosal can "dye". From discussions on this Forum, it is doubtful that the stuff is anything but spray paint with a different label. Get your dye from a professional auto paint supply store.
I just did a set of 67 Camaro belts with RIT Dye and hot water and it worked fine. I went from blue to black. I was hoping to keep the service lable dry but the belts wick up the dye and the lables and now black. This wasn't a restoration so I wasn't upset with the results.
did you have to do anything to the belts before you dyed them and how many coat before they cover.
I washed the belts (literally ran them through the washing machine). When they were dry, I shot the SEM. Went from black to dark blue. The first coat covered well and I probably didn't need the second coat.
I also put two coats of the vinyl dye on mine (silver) last weekend. They look like new now. A bit stiff at first but roll them up and pull them out a couple of times and the stiffness was gone.
