I would like to get an idea of when my 82 was built...ie what month, or better yet, what week if possible.
The NCM cannot provide a build sheet because the VIN# falls into a range of #'s that the records were lost or distroyed.
Where would I look to find this info ??
Take a look at the trim tag. It is a silver metal tag in the drivers door hinge area. It has a code for the paint color, the interior color and the production date.
I have a '73 and I think your production date code should be similar. The date code is stamped in the upper right corner of the tag. Mine says E01 which is December 1st 1972. The letter is the month of production. A = August, B = Sept, C = Oct, etc. The number is the day of the month that it started down the production line.
Here is a great site with info about the VIN and other stuff.
Ah, I see that now for 82, one of the quirks of using Calendar months rather than Assembly months where the numbers or letters would not be reused.
So C10E could be either 5th week October 1982 or 1981.
October 81 was the first month of production and October 82 was the last, so C10 was the only assembly date code that was used twice in 82.
The VIN monthly numbers show 784 as a December build. Does your door sticker says December? Check this out from the NCRS manual:
Note: Due to difficulty in passing emission standards, 1982 Corvettes with October and November build dates on the Body Paint and Trim plate may have a December build date on the Certification Label on the driver's door
Would this help? It shows the code, month/year production and sequence number. Since it shows the sequence number you might be able to determine which C10 bucket you fall in. As I mentioned before if you order the dealer invoice you will know when it was made.

My VIN decodes as April 30th 82 which seems about right.
I tried this website, and I thought I should share the results with all of you. The "calculator" said that my 1981 Corvette was built November 18, 1980. The title to my car, however, shows that it was first registered in October of 1980.

There are a couple of the Corvette birthday calculators around. They are usually pretty good, but they are not perfect. Single best source for a Corvette birthday is the time/build date on the trim tag.

Are you referring to the metal tag in the driver's door frame? I have a "CHEVROLET 017" (0 could be a "zero" or an "oh") stamped on the tag. Can anyone tell me what that means for a 1981?

LO PHAT
That's a St Louis car and it must be either C17 which would be October 17, 1980 or D17 for November 17, 1980.
Check the tag carefully. Many times they are hard to figure out on some characters.
No "O" or "0" used on tags in the month position in 1981.
