GM had them, Did not use them....
This is what I believe GM should of used on the C3’s instead of the plastic things they chose. I think the C3 lines set off the covers even better than the midyear cars, especially with the egg crate vents.
This is not a Saturday morning two hour installation, there is some modifying but worth the effort involved. Did the same install on a 70 back in the early 70’s and just had to do it again. There are some other versions of this setup around but if there are any trimmed out with both C2 pipes and covers, I have not seen them.
Never been a great fan of these side pipe systems for some reason probably because they are noisy am I'm getting old(er) but this setup on your car is absolutely spot on, best I've seen, beautiful.
When I restored my '70 I was thinking about putting sides on it and now every time I see a C3 with sides it makes me jealous! They look great! Is the rear valance panel (where the exhaust normally exit the car) a blank off panel? Beautiful car...gotta love red!
You did an excellent job...they look amazing. I still think GM did the right thing though using the updated ones. They have that sculpted, angular look that really meshes well with the futuristic, exotic C3 look. These go well with both but were perfectly suited for the rounder C2 look. Just my opinion. Again, well done.

Aside from that - they do look great!

I am refering to the stock C3 covers. I always thought they looked too bulky and looked like they were from a plastic mold. Didn't mean to offend anyone, just my opinion..

What stock C3 covers? The rocker panels?
The C3 side exhaust was only available in 1969 as an option and they were chrome plated metal with fiberglass insulators.

Sorry if that came off wrong. No offense taken. I just got lost trying to figure out what you were talking about.
There are aftermarket plastic covers out there but the original '69 covers are definately not cheap or plastic.

I had a flat on my 70 back in the 70's. Lucky for me it was in my driveway. After that I added a 1/2" drive ratchet, 3/4" deep socket, a piece of 2X10 (91/4" X 12"), a small piece of 1X4" firing strip to place on top of the jack to keep it from hitting the pipe when positioned and a old towel to kneel on to my jack tray. The piece of 2X10 is for driving onto if I need any extra clearance. And yes it does provide enough clearance if the tire is flat. I know since I won a beer bet with a buddy many years ago. Drove the car onto the board and let the air out of the tire to show that I had clearance. Hey, it was for a beer!!! The ratchet and socket are just for convenience.
Hi Red71,
I love RED 71's. I like them even better with side exhaust. The job you did looks ALMOST like it belongs. Sorry, I prefer the 69 side exhausts on the 68-72 body style.
