Default Help, Need some advice....

Hi all,

I was hoping someone could tell me if the pics of my fender look the way they should... My bird cage is good, but I want to make sure it stays that way...

Hard to tell except for some de-lamination in the first pic.

Hi JG,
The hinge pillars were VERY roughly finished from the factory. Your's look like they've had some more ugly work done on them. I'm not sure just what you're asking.

Alan

Hi JG,
Here are 3 pictures from my 71.
The first is with the paint and 'gunk' partialy stripped.
The second is the hinge pillar ready to be primed.
The third is with the epoxy primer sprayed.
I hope this helps you figure out what you have.
Regards,
Alan

Alan, what did you use to strip the paint off the door jambs?

as said earlier, they were very roughly finished from the factory and when I pulled my doors I had the same worries as you. Once I pulled/scraped off the seam sealer and gunk they cleaned up nicely. Not for sure but I believe they crammed all that up in there to keep water from running down to the door sill.

Hi 40ZR1
I used the same stripper I used on the rest of the body. I believe it was called REDI-STRIP. I got it at my local 'Home Store'.
It's really incredible how sloppy the door jambs and wiper well were in the early 70s.

Alan

Sorry I wasn't a little more clear on my question....

My main concern is the way this sits, will water/moisture run into and rust the area behind the kick panels? (Sorry, not sure of the name. but body mount 2 is at bottom of it)

Does anything need to be done with it to make it less of a water hazard behind my kick panels??? What can be done to make sure water doesn't run into the areas where I don't want it??

Sorry I didn't mention it earlier but I have a 78.

Hope this is a little more clear than my first post.

Thank You,

Jeff
