Default A few building questions

Is it economical to buy a frame and restore it or build a brand new frame.

I'm really new sooo
is it possible to just build the driveline on the frame and then drop the body on top?

I'm getting a pic soon...

Hi,
You can buy a frame and restore it, or start by buying a new frame.
Yes, you can build a rolling chassis with a complete drive train and then drop the body on.
I'm not sure what you're thinking of starting with? Will you start with a car or just pieces that make a car?
I'm VERY confused.
Regards,
Alan

well what i've seen before was someone fabricated their frame or of Steel tubing instead of the typical frame steel

I was planing on just rebuilding the whole drivetrain and mounting it to a frame(new or restored) and then restoring a body and putting it on top

Are you talking about the tubular SRIII frames with the late model suspension or a stock frame, I'm confused as well. You can drop a body on either one after completion.

yeah it would look like that but i would fabricate it myself
i'm just wondering if doing ^ would be more economical then buying an original frame and then putting the money into it to get it to 95% of its original strength.

I'm a pre-engineering student so i want to have a project to do on my own that i could take on while i'm in college and afterwards

I've seen some frames and parts on craigslist in the Seattle/Portland area, one of those would be a good start if you want to tackle a project like that.

FWIW: Fabricating or purchasing a new frame will cost you more than restoring the one you have.
